Calanques National Park

An exceptional landscape, a refuge for remarkable biodiversity

At the gates of Marseille, between land and sea, lies a unique natural space in the Mediterranean: the Calanques National Park. A true jewel of the region, this listed site protects an exceptional territory where limestone cliffs, crystal-clear waters and remarkable biodiversity coexist in a fragile balance. Since 2012, it has been the first national park in Europe to combine a land, sea and peri-urban area, thus demonstrating its ecological and heritage importance.

An exceptional landscape, a refuge for remarkable biodiversity

The Calanques are a breathtaking landscape, sculpted by time and the elements. Here, steep paths wind through fragrant scrubland, revealing secret coves where the sea plays with the rock. In these clear waters, marine life is exceptionally rich: the Posidonia seagrass beds, the lungs of the Mediterranean, are home to groupers, sea bream and seahorses, while the cliffs provide refuge for many species of birds, including the majestic peregrine falcon.

A fragile territory to be preserved

But this natural heritage is also a fragile space, subject to strong tourism pressure. Preserving this balance is at the heart of the mission of the Calanques National Park, which implements strict rules to protect these landscapes while allowing their discovery. Navigation is supervised, anchoring is prohibited on the seagrass beds, and access to the massifs is restricted in summer to prevent the risk of fire.

Les Barquettes, a commitment to responsible tourism

At Les Barquettes , we share this desire to preserve this exceptional territory. This is why we offer environmentally friendly sea excursions, aboard traditional Marseille boats, designed to sail in harmony with this natural environment. Our outings favor a gentle and immersive approach, where sailing is highlighted as soon as conditions allow. We also make sure to raise awareness among our passengers of the park's riches and conservation issues, so that everyone can enjoy it while contributing to its preservation.

Embark on an authentic and sustainable experience

Exploring the Calanques is a unique experience, between raw beauty and unspoiled nature. Aboard our barquette and tartane, we invite you to discover this exceptional site in a different way, far from the hustle and bustle and as close as possible to the elements.
